Animal-based Conditioners

Animal-based conditioners include mink oil and neatsfoot oil, which is derived from the hooves of cattle. Such oils are used similarly to other products (see Huberd's and leather balm above). However, some bootblacks prefer the animal-based products. It is important to be aware that some animal-based conditioners contain silicone, which can interact in unexpected ways with other products that have been used or will be used in the future. While this does not speak directly against the use of animal-based products, a bootblack should be aware of the possible difficulties that may arise.
